I have one of those synthetic AKA plastic stocks used for drill rifles and I plan on using it for my shooter 1903A3. The rifle fits nicely in the stock except for the buttplate. A regular 1903A3 buttplate won't fit due to the hinge for the cleaning kit door. I found a buttplate advertised as being for the M1942 Drill Rifle on eBay. This buttplate has no door so it may fit. Does anybody know what kind of buttplates were originally used on these plastic stocks?
They were designed for a regular 1903/A3 butt plate. Can you see what is preventing the BP from seating? Perhaps you can relieve the stock to seat the BP.
The hole in the stock isn't big enough for the buttplate trap hinge to settle in. I could try and trim away the plastic I guess, shouldn't be too difficult a job....
Break out the Dremil!
FYI on M1942 Drill Rifle buttplate: I did get one of those drill rifles buttplates and it is NOT a fit. The big screw hole doesn't match and the general contours of the buttplate are a little different. It was a good try I guess but I will be breaking out the Dremel tool...
