How to clean a mahogony stock?

I have a Jungle Carbine which needs a good cleaning. The stock appears to be made of mahogony (sp?) and I was wondering what the best way to clean the stock of oil and or grease was and how to get back the original finish was. Thanks in advance...

What I used to clean the walnut stock on my No4 was BLO and 0000 steel wool. Dip the steel wool in the boiled lindseed oil and scrub the grime off. Let it soak in for 30 minutes or so and wipe it down with a cloth to remove the excess. (don't let it dry out before you wipe the excess off) Let it dry out overnight an repeat as necessary. You will be really surprised as to how dirty the cloth is that you use to wipe it down

You might try mineral spirits and steel wool before the linseed oil. If it is really dirty acetone works good. Whatever you do do not sand the wood, and I would advise staying away from water based cleaners or oven cleaner.

I've been using a 50/50 mix of turpentine and BLO as a cleaner with 0000 steel wool. I use it pretty heavy and wipe off as I go so the dirt is not drawn back into the wood.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try a little of each method at a time just to be safe...
