I have two 1916 pistols with S marked slides and frames, but both barrels are unmarked. How should the barrels be marked, with a S P like a H P ? It seems odd that both of the barrels are not marked, were pre WW2 replacements barrels unmarked ?

While checking the back of the hood, look down on the back of the lugs, too.
Please post your findings after you re-check your barrels. Including the rest of the information on the pistols would be helpful as well. Thanks.
Both Barrels are unmarked, S marked frames and slides, ser# 133200 has been reblued at some point, ser#135364 has a lot of originial finish, all small parts look correct on both pistols
Johnny, Thanx for posting the pics . I will have to get out the magnifying glass give the barrels another look see.
The 135xxx example is late enough that it could have had a 'H P' barrel as many in that serial number range have exhibited. Wear patterns would be the deciding factor.
