I was looking at a SMLE at a local pawn shop today, I do not know anything about SMLEs and I did not get a lot of info on this one. It appeared to be in good condition . It looked like a WW1 rifle with the magazine cutoff on the side of the receiver it had a IP stamped on it They wanted $400 for it. What do the WW1 rifles go for? Sorry I know I have given almost nothing to go on.

IP usually means India Pattern. I had one years ago. However the only thing 'India Pattern' that I could find on it was a solid Piling Swivel lug (No hole for the piling swivel screw.) and an Ishy Screw. (Ishy screws are have been discussed ad infinitum.)Quote:

That's not a common rifle, hard to say without seeing photos but I would say it HAS to be worth that and a lot more. If I was in the US I'd buy it.

They say that "if" is the middle word in life. It'd be worth the price and maybe a bit more if it's complete and in reasonable condition.
Has it been chopped up to make a deer rifle?
Is the bore OK?
Do any of the serial numbers on the bolt, backsight, forend or nose cap match the receiver?
It's a tough call without seeing the thing but it sounds like it's worth further investigation.

it has not been chopped up I will have to check the bore and the serial numbers. I was told that It came from acollector that got a better example
