That is a hard question to answer. Mainly due to the fact that the some (not all) of the folks who sell them represent them as being original. One in particular on the West coast and another out of MN. We also see them frequently on "original" carbines on GB from less than honorable gun dealers who prey on the unsuspecting and unknowing. Of the few reputable folks who will tell you up front they are reproduction, Nick Dailey comes to mind. I do not have his email address, but perhaps someone else does.
Nick's email address is: folcmote@aol.com

First make sure your carbine didn't come as issued with the type II or Type III Adj rear sight.
A repro sight that doesn't glare repro at you...... will more than likely be represented as a original and cost you just about what a real one would.
If the carbine doesn't have stake marks from a rear adjustable sight being installed, it could be worth your $$ to put a real one on it.
If it already has the rear adj sight and it's staked in tight keep it, it makes for a better shooting sight. There's no way to hide the crater sized stake marks.
You'll still see them even if a flip sight is installed.
But it is your carbine.... If you want a early WWII look,
Walter on Gun Broker sells repro flip sights.
Advertised as such.........

And as David mentioned Nick also sells them as such, repro........

I bought a repro Type II barrel band from Walter a while back. Used it to mount a sling on a 410 shotgun for the grandson of a friend. With some tweaking, it worked out pretty well. Routered out the stock and stuck a M2 dummy round in it to catch a late D tipped sling. He thinks that bullet is so cool.

If you desire one for the honorable purpose of assembling a shooter and want the flip site because you like to shoot with it, they work well.
I put together a carbine with a M1A1 reproduction stock, commercial barrel, very pitted receiver etc. Shoots great. Looks fine from 10'. Stock deliberately stamped with a mark that the Gov. never used, so it will never fool even a fool.
Yes, honorable purpose! See this thread about the gun: Inland Flip Sight - Military Surplus Collectors Forums
Thanks for the help! I purchased one from Nick on Ebay for $15 with free shipping.
Got my repro from Nick and am very pleased!
