Real or Repro? - Flip sight - Revisited
-
Interesting. It looks ok to me on the base, spring and pin but that aperture sure looks like a cast replacement, possibly that is why the pin hole is peened on one side, to hold the pin back in after it was driven out. Where are you finding these things?

peep sight
I have two peep sights, both are without the base or pin/spring. Had these a long time, one is marked BR and the other unmarked. In looking at my two peep sights, I have noticed that the taper is wider and also extends lower at the bottom. The radius on the side views, mine are smoother.
I realize alot of different manufactures made these parts and variations could be expected!

I haven't learned the sights yet, but I am impressed with the quality of the pictures! Wished everyone posted pics like that!

EyeSpy, sorry I didn't get back to you but I think (I said think) this is a real sight. M1Riflenut has been at this a long time and his observations have some validity. I am not sure if the peep is cast or maybe just a replacement. This goes right in line with what I have said time and time again; one day, the counterfeits will be so good we won't be able to tell them from the real deal.

I have to agree with M1Riflenut on this one -
The base and spring look very authentic in finish, wear and aging, but the aperture does look cast, and it also has a slightly different finish than the base has. (Texture, wear, color, and aging)
It's sad that things have come to this, and even the slightest anomaly is suspect.
