Can Parkerizing be chemically removed or does just take elbow grease and some emery paper?
I have a stock that needs a rifle of this vintage and I’m thinking of pulling the barrel off , a 1944 barrel, cleaning off the park, drill and tap for a Lyman 48 and rust blue.
I know this is a rebuilt with a bunch of different parts but I hate to mess it up, looks unfired since the overhaul. The bore is like new.

I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Please, leave it alone. You will only mess it up. Wrong candidate for backyard overhaul. Springfield didn't merely rust blue them, they were wire brushed in a certain way and are very obvious to the basic collector. You need to keep looking for the "right" gun for your project. Sorry, you have not found it, yet.
What sort of stock? A fancy sporter? I don't think you would fool are around w/ anything that's not "interesting'!
Hi Mike, I think that Navel Jelly or diluted Pool acid will remove park or baking soda on low/med preasure as well without disturbing anything.
I want too see pic's when its done!!
P.s. what are you going too do with the barrel?
Calf-Steve, Mike Petrov knows his way around a 03 I think its in good hands.
I don't think Naval Jelly will remove parkerizing, it will remove bluing. If this is US arsenal parkerizing, it will be a tough removal. I am not sure if Michael Petrov has any other candidiates for this project, but I do feel this is not the candidate. He really needs a receiver with little to no bluing left on it. Lots of 03's around here that need a rust blue job. Sad to say, that particualr receiver doesn't need a rust blue job. If you bead blast it, it will not look right with a blue finish. Brownell's has/had "White out" (?), and it removed bluing. Not certain about parkerizing. This is a tough one.
Sorry, forgot all about this thread. I'll trade this one off for one more appropriate to my needs. I did not realize that anyone would care about a rebuilt.
Yes, I have a custom stock missing the rifle most likley built shortly after WWI. The barreled action in the stock was for picture taking, it's from another rifle.

Beautiful stock, Michael. The cheekpiece would have to be my favorite part. Let us know when it is complete.
I'd post it on Gunbroker for a trade for a Bluded version of the barreled action. Original MILSURP barreled actions are getting harder to find. It would be a crime to Bubba that action.
Yep that's me Mr. Bubba Here is the last crime I committed, you would have been sick if you watched me cut a taper on the front of this action or grind down the tang.

Lovely, lovely piece. But, understand, there are many candidiates for overhaul out there. That first rifle is a candidate for re-coversion to military condition. Good luck on the project and I would certainly like to see the finished product.
