Full-length size to shove the .303 shoulder back far enough to chamber easily (ideally, with just a touch of resistance in the last few degrees of bolt closing.) That's all there is to it.
The .303 case is ~1/10" shorter than the .30-40 - not enough to worry much unless you shoot a lot in serious competition. (Expect some slight loss of accuracy and increased erosion - more in theory than in practice.)
Don't waste your time converting .303 Brit to .30-40 Krag. The .30-40 has been manufactured in the U.S. for over 100 years. If you'd spend a little time on google and check some websites you'll find new .30-40 brass.

You might actually want to try that before suggesting it. I been hunting as many as 10 pages of Google results for 2 weeks now and so far only found 20 rds actually for sale. Most the dealers that list it are actually out of stock when you call. Locally I can buy 180grin Winchester for $35.00 a box but that is about it. I have my brother who is a dealer with a shop in SE AZ with 100 rds of new brass on order for me. He expects it to come in sometime in late Sept to Oct.
Remington hasn't made any brass or loaded any rounds since 2008 early 2009. Winchester is doing seasonal runs and Remington is rumored of offering more in 2011.
It's getting DAMN hard to find.
I just completed going through 30 years of Handloading magazine and only came up with what Parashooter. .100
I wouldn't give too much credence to a historical article that claims the Krag was adopted by Denmark, Sweden, and Norway in 1889. As most of you already know, Sweden adopted the 6.5mm Mauser carbine in 1894 (rifle in 1896) and Norway chose the home-grown Krag in the same chambering, also in 1894. I reckon some folks just think "all them Scandahoovians are the same".
