My wife recently bought me a 1905-17 'Continsouza' Berthier; the barrel is marked 1917 and "N"; it still has the three round mag, not the 5 rounder. It appears to be in almost 'unused' condition, probably brought back to the States in the prewar era...no import marks and VERY clean. Surprisingly, all the serial numbers match with the exception of the triggerguard/magazine plate. The barrel is marked 'MPA' just forward of the receiver ring on the RHS just before the date of 1917...the LHS of the barrel is marked C C just above the SN of 991xx. The seller has the 'knitting needle' bayonet as well as some surplus ammo and some Winchester ammo...I was lucky enough to score three three round clips out of a box of miscellaneous clips I bought from the seller
