I picked these up today at a small military store, paid $35 for them. They have a 44 and a star on the base of the round. Are they worth what I paid?

YES! ANy box of USGI 30 carbine ammo is worth $35!
Hi BB,
No WRA at home and all my USGI spent brass is at my reloaders house.
I don't recall seeing a star on the WRA, But I haven't seen it in a while.
Maybe Bruce McAskill will chime in.
I agree with R-M, Finding any ammo for $35 a box... especially USGI brass is worth that much to me.

Here's one I was planning on bidding on, but had to run the truck up for A/C repairs and forgot about the ending time.
I just realized you could search GB for cancelled/ended auctions. Learn a little every day or so.
300rds... 5 boxes of LC 43 and 1 box of Kings Mill- PC 43 still in the boxes. went for $149.99 + shipping.
To me... A good buy.

P.S. depending on the outcome of this A/C repair..... I might not have been able to spend the extra $$ after a pricey vacation and Para Sailing near the Mackinaw Bridge. But it was a blast with my thrill seeking daughter. Pretty cool looking down at our boat chasing us with video.
$35 for WW2 ammo is just about the top price for it. One thing to remember if you shoot it and then reload it you will have to remove the crimp around the primer pocket. Only Winchester (WRA) and Western Cartridge Company (WCC) owned by Winchester used the crimp on the primer through Korea. I think if I remember correctly and I could be off on this that the star indicated that the brass lot was made by someone other then Winchester but loaded by them. Hey Charlie you didn't get air sick now did you??????? Sounds like you had a real good time.
Thanks Bruce, I didn't buy it to shoot just thought it looked nice and wanted it. The box is in really good shape and I would have bought it for that reason alone. I think the seller wanted the $35 to buy lunch for him and an off duty county deputy that was at the shop. The sad thing about all that is he didn't invite me, guess the money would not stretch that far.
And to think, people turned thier nose up at surplus around 1980. I used to get all kinds of .06 & 45ACP dirt cheap. .06 was $1-2 a box of 20 and 45ACP was $3-5 for a box of 50. Wish I would have kept some.
