I have a type 4 slide. On the bottom inside of the box it has a faint double struct "PI" (Inland) on the outside bottom of the box it has a "U" with sarifs and no dots. Does this indicate an Underwood connection, either shipped to Underwood from Inland or the other way around, or does it mean something else. I want to sell it and I want my description to be accurate.

I have 2 extra Inland type 4 slides. Both are marked PI inside the slide box.
Outside bottoms are both marked, one has a Sarif U with NO DOTS, the other has a serif A.
Thought to be Inspector stamps or shift markings, best I can recall.

That's correct. I have seen the above plus a 'V'. These are great slides that incorporate every improvement that went into effect before the M2. One of these in good condition makes for a great shooting slide and it's also correct on later Inlands.
Not all type 4 slides have all the improvements.
It is an Inland type IV (E379) without the latest improvements.

explains the differences between type V slides with and without the improvements. A few type IV slides have the increased dwell but not many.

Could you expand on your answer about the pre and post improvements?
Would it have anything to do with where the right bolt lug meets the slide's heart shaped cut, The internal sides of such? Aprox date of the changes being implemented?

Sorry, I must be thinking of a Type V with slanted cam cover for a longer 'dwell'. That's the slide I had in mind when I made the above comment.
The "slanted cam cover" doesn't provide for longer dwell and not all type V slides have the longer dwell.
