Sloppyness of bayonets on 99 rifle

I have some nice looking bayonets %80 and better. I assume this comes from sticking the bayonets in straw dummys and twisting them in practice back in the big WW2 by the Japanese . Or on people. In New Guinea some 160 captured Aussies were tied to trees alive and used for Bayonet practice by the Japs, ( The Ghost Mountian Boys,by James Campell) The screams could be heard for near a mile by escaping troops. They loved there bayonets and charges like no other army . With near 8.5 million Japanese bayonets made . The Japanese used more bayonets than any other army past or present. I at last found one like new and it has no play or looseness on 6 different T99 rifles. Being made of softer steel in the guard I can see how they would open up under that kind of adrenlin torgue in combat and training. Any thoughts ??

I've seen a lot of different bayonets and none of them seem particularly tight to me. I would think a tight one would be unusual.

One thing for sure BAR theres no bayonet on the BAR. The Japs even had a Lug on the 99 LMG. The Japanese culture favored edged weapons . And I support this. Bring them to the Bren,BAR,Browning aircooled,Vickers gun. Never bring a knive to a gunfight!!

That's very true. The Japs believed in the theory of cold steel. During a bayonet charge, everyone participated and everyone had a blade. They were sharp and frequently used. Their training advocated close combat and that sort of thing will cause you to lose the fear of man. That's one of the reasons MacArthur used them for police after the war, they could handle people. The sight of a lone man with Arisaka and fixed bayonet was a deterent for most situations. People knew these men would mix it up in a minute. Loose bayonet or not.

My Jap Arisaka Type 99 rifle and my Type 30 bayonet fit just fine. Minimal slack at component parts. A true longarm with bayo attached. A bit unwieldy in the jungle I would surmise. Yet intimidating none the less. I can't think of a more brutal, murdering, mercyless, bastard than the Jap soldier in WW II. Every surviving WW II vet of the PTO to this day absolutly despises anything Japanese!! They were animals in a sense!!!

The Japs revered the blade:bow:-they even had a bayonet for the Type 96 LMG! I imagine he would have been the last man in line of the Banzai charge....
