Mismatch No4 T scope question

Hi folks,

I purchased a 1943 BSA No4 MkI T with mismatched No32 MkII scope last fall. Got it from Brian at BDL. The scope was refinished by Peter. :)

To date I've only had it out to the range a couple times, and only at 100 yards. Only 60 rounds through it so far. Using factory ammo I am getting pretty consistent 1.5 inch 5 shot groups. When I get around to working up some loads I expect that should tighten up even better.

So the question is, is there a way to adjust the scope so that the elevation and deflection drum settings match reality?

At 100 yards, in order to hit my point of aim, I've got the elevation set for 375 yards (3 clicks past 3) and the deflection is set 3 clicks from 0. I suppose I could keep a listings of setting for various distances, but I'd rather not.

I'm making an assumption here, but is this because the scope and bracket are mismatched to the rifle?

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but isn't a simple matter of "slipping the rings" for zeroing?

I know on a modern scope it's really simple, but on a No.32 scope you have to have two hands ... :lol:

No slipping rings on the Mk2 scope. What you need to do is to get and read the little No32 telescope book. But, in short, to solve the range 'problem', zero the rifle as you have, then hold the central leadscrew and simply wind the drum back to 1 (100). That has put the bullets into the bull at 100 yards while the telescope is now reading 100 yards.

But to do this, you need to just nip-up the lead screw. If it's one of my telescopes, then they will be nipped up anyway. Tighten it like a gorilla and all is lost.............

I thought that one was set up properly with 174 grain Mk.VIIZ military ball ammo. Follow Peter's instructions with your own ammo and it should be good to go. The big test of proper bracket to pad fit is to remove the bracket and then reinstall it. It should shoot to the same point of impact within one minute which was spec. Im sure it will because I test fired it before I shipped it to you and didn't find any problems.

Brian has a very valid point there, that I'd half thought about. If it was a genuine mismatch problem, then the zero would be out in both planes but being only out in the vertical plane seems to me like you're not using UK/Commonwealth Military spec ammunition. But if you want to continue with your ammo (you didn't give the make/speed/spec), then just re-set the range drum
