...marked MRT 1945 . Anyone earlier?
Chris
Can you post a picture of that marking?
I have MRT records and the earliest I have is either 1947 or 1949. I do have Thompson Slings marked:
MILDEW PROOFED
RI ORD DEPOT
1945
That is not MRT. Rock Island Ordnance Depot, a part of Rock Island Arsenal, seems to be the first to use the "mildew" markings. All previous were either "Fungus Proofed" or FP.
Guys,
While so many of you were on the subject of jumping with the Mortar base plates, I stumbled across this post on another forum.
I'm just trying to help by finding out what I could about the possible date of this sling. Which I see has the MRT marking.
If in fact it is a Mortar Sling.
Plan was to try to help answer his question as to it's age. And if it was WWII, Korea or Vietnam era.
Appreciate the help,

Here's the link to that post with the questions and pictures.....
can anyone ID this for me? - U.S. Militaria Forum
Painter 777 ... that is a US 60MM mortar sling ( I have a 60MM) . My sling is unmarked / undated. It is almost new in condition , but no visable marks. The cup and strap end and the buckle an strap end are of leather construction , with the body ( main strap ) green web. This puts it at least '43 or later. His all web one would be after that , but I don't know if they had them before '45.
Bill , I may have mis-spoke. I know I have some M3 slings treated marked '45 , but they may not be "mrt". I'll check for you and let you know. It will be awhile , as I'm leaving staight from work to Phx. tonight. My wife has tests Wed. and then may have surgery depending on the results. I may be back Wed. night or it may be several days.

Chris: If it is MRT I would appreciate a picture.
I hope your wife is OK. That is more important than any of these projects.
