1915 kar 98a
I have a Erfurt 1915 KAR 98 Serial Number 1846. It was handed down to me from my Grandfather that was in Germany during WWII. I do not know much history about it other then my grandfather brought it back. He was killed in a car wreck when my mother was only 6 yrs old.
The serial number all match on all the components except for the muzzle cap on the end of the barrel. It has the Prussian eagle stamps stamped in several places as well as it looks like the geman swastika "maybe" under the eagle. It does not have a top piece of the stock above the forearm and it has the original sling. The stock seems to be walnut.
It is in great condition and looks really nice. I will post some pictures of it tonight.

Adding Photos. It looks like a Army unit is on the butt of the Rifle. 13/JP 6.304 anyone know about that unit? Hopefully someone can shed some info about the rifle too.
Having trouble adding the photos...here is my images on flicker...KAR 98 Mauser

Nice, cut-down Kar98a. No WWII markings, that I can see. Most of these will be found with poor bores. What is your barrel like? The handguard ring has been milled off the front end of the receiver. You will not be able to restore to WWI configuation, sorry. This really hurts collector interest. But a nice hunting rifle, nonetheless.

The Barrel inside is real nice with good riffling. It shoots great too.
