1903A3 screw thread size
Could anyone tell me the correct thread screw size for an 1903A3 upper band screw?
I have a new screw but the treads in the band are damaged. It's outer threads are ok and the screw will start there but the inner threads are norked up. I want to buy a tap and fix the problem Thanks.

According to Ordnance Drawing A153074 (changed to 5153074 in 1949) “SCREW, Lower Band and SCREW, Stacking Swivel Band” dated May 1, 1942, thread size is “.130 (NO.10) 32NF - 2” or 10x32. This is for a GI part, if your is an after market reproduction it could be something else, inch or metric.

Benny,
emmagee1917 is correct. You can get a replacement assembly and they aren't terribly expensive for A3's and not that hard to come accross.
Personally I'd recommend Bill Ricca. He should have one, and he's reasonable and honest. Here's a link to his web site, and his direct email is on his site.

Benny’s question is about the screw that holds the ‘BAND, bayonet stud’ to the end of the stock, and yes I was also confused at first. That screw is not staked, (it maybe braded a little) and I gave him the size, 6x40 from Ord.Dr.#A295818. He obtained a correct tap chased the thread and “screw fits in just fine”. See the whole tread over on Culvers under M1903.
