Hi folks,
I've noticed that a couple of my No.4 rifles have a small spring washer on the front trigger guard screw. But most of them don't. Should this be present on all of them? I don't see that spring washer listed my schematic diagram.

Hi folks,

You certainly SHOULD have a spring washer fitted to your No4 and 5 rifles. It's to prevent the front trigger guard screw from unscrewing and loosening the rifle body in the fore-end. Once the body is loose it's free to move under its own mmentum during recoil, doing all sorts of damage to the fore-end and therefore the fit in the fore-end as it does so. Especially the draws area. Replace these lost or missing washers soonest.
On the other hand, look inside the screw head recess in the trigger guard as they are prone to spring into there and hold on tight.
Thanks Peter.
Should there be a spring washer when there's a sling swivel installed too?
Yes............. and we used to fit them on the No1 rifle too
