I thought this would get a quick answer on the CMP board about this, but after 60 views and 0 responses, I'll try it here.
Does anyone know when the tip of the barrel band spring was changed from a "rounded" tip to an "angle cut" tip? I had never seen the angle cut type until I bought a few. Photo below. Thanks.

I'm not sure that what you have is WWII US production.
I am not well versed in these, but on the carbine club data sheet that style is not shown.
Where did you get these from? They may be a not USGI part or a civilian aftermarket part.
One of the guys who is more knowledgeable in the very small details may have a definite answer.

Thanks for your reply. I thought the top picture on the data sheet depicted an angle cut, but this model is cut differently. Got them on eBay from Rays Surplus. I bought one before from him, and it was the standard round USGI tip, but these latest two are angle cut. He replied to my query that they are "later" versions, and is quite willing to swap them out if I want. I was just curious when these came into distribution.Quote:

CCNL#331 shows eight different profiles; three are round tip, five are chisel tip. Their photos and yours are from only one angle, so it's impossible to say with certainty, but yours looks similar to one of those pictured in the newsletter. The newsletter article writer, a long-time contributor, made the general observation that the chisel tip springs appear to be from from later rifles. Perhaps this is due to the change in front band configurations.
Check the price of bandsprings. Why would anyone go to the trouble of reproducing them? Every 100 carbines shipped with 16 complete spare stocks plus four more front band springs. Not an item that wore out easily.
Thanks guys. Being a noob to the Carbine Club, I only have issues back to #357. I'm not particular about this band right now, as it's for a shooter I'll be putting together if I ever find another barreled receiver. I only bought one from the last CMP batch. I knew I should have bought more. I was just curious as to whether it was a USGI part, and possibly learning when approx. it was introduced.
How do you remove and replace the band spring?
You just push it out from the other side of the stock.
