Only if it's a deactivation. Even with the gas system plugged to single shot the markings designate the rifle type.
Think you´d be better off in that respect in England .... certainly better off in Germany.

Nice gun A Square. I think the question was from Canada because the number is how our licences are designated.
If the OP is in deed from north of the 48th parallel I would suggest he go to Canadian Gun Nutz forum. There are a number of thread there that concern owning a Fn FAL / C1A1(L1A1).
