I stumbled upon this last night. It doesn't look like a project for the faint of heart, but it is a Mk V.

The scope mount is the worst thing about it aside from the huge difficulty in rounding up parts. Still...

As Jmoore pointed out its finding the parts, originals are like rocking horse s**t, and would be a case of using repro stuff to complete.
You can convert an existing mk 111 fore-end yourself (very easy), and make a top handgaurd, see the one I,m doing in the restorers corner at the top in the sticky,s in 4 parts, (part 5 on the way shortly).
(Due to the nature of the work done by the previous owner, (see part 1), it was never going to be a full restro, so was more of a budget build, and to show what can be done to bring some life back to an old milsurp without great expense).
Metal work looks ok and would say barrel has not been chopped, but it may of had some material removed on the reciever to allow for the mount, ( this was done on mine, but not by an expert, this why I,m reducing the calibre).
If i was over in the USA, then i would be buying this one and any other No1 Mk V,s that come along.
To me thay are a future classic, No4 t,s seem to be coming to the surface all the time, easy money for the forger, but the No1 MkV too much work involved, there are ones that have had new wood fitted and repro sights etc, but very easy to tell it apart from the original, I had one in the other day, seller said it was all original etc, only thing original was the action it was returned for a refund.
Looks like someone gave the buyer a heads up on what hea actually had. He has updated his listing as a No I Mk V Trials Rifle- Sporterized.

Brian, Would make another nice project to go with your No1 Mk VI ?
I am long on projects and short on time!!
Although I was tempted. I have two nice No I Mk Vs. Had another but sold it a few years ago.
Looks like the rifle sold for $231.00.
