19487 GRI No1 Mk III * - Questions

Crappy pics...too lazy to grab the dslr....lots of IS marks with numbers...320, 55 etc...

BTW what kind of wood do you think this is? It is kinda dirty and I was thinking of taking some VERY fine steel wool and wiping it all down to get the surface grime off then linseed oil it...would that be consistent with what they did as far as finish goes?

Also that is a sling I had lying around...what would be a correct coloring and type of sling for this year/type/manufacturer

Looks good. If the stock isn't light colored walnut I'd say it's what Col. Edwards describes as "lighter hardwood resembling poplar" which Ishapore used in the 1940's. Whatever it is, linseed oil will work. I think the sling that's on it now is just fine. It appears that the butt swivel is installed backwards-the heads of both swivel screws should be on the left side.

I agree - the wood looks very nice, so a light cleaning and going over with linseed oil (thanks for reminding me - I need to get more today) would be all that is needed. how doe she shoot? Anyone know what the cartouche on the right side of the buttstock indicates? That is one area (of the many) that I am ignorant on :)

No idea myself. But I have the same one on my single shot Ishapore .410 musket conversion.

I don't think that's dirty - ther are just some dark bruised wood fibres that are normal for its wear and age. I would give it a coat of hand-rubbed BLO, wipe clean, and leave it as-is. The stamp, if I recall my Edwards, is a 1960's era inspection stamp.

I'll re-install the screws when I re-assemble...going to break it down tonight fater I get some work done and LO it.....
