Rock-Ola. Slide rattles quite a bit in the relaxed position. Slide spring?
Most will to some point, but if really bad.... Hopefully it's just the spring.
The rear inner pad near the Op rod handle can wear down, cause for replacing.
Also inner pads along rear of the slide well can get rounded down.
Extra Op slide stashed away is a have to have if dooms day comes.
Along with extra bolt, bolt internals and of course plenty of ammo.
I hope just a new spring cures your rattle.

Me too! I have a spare stock, spare bolt, spare slide, spare recoil spring and spare complete trigger group. To bad I was broke when CMP had barreled receivers!
That slide riding in those grooves is just begging to wear. The single spring side loads the part too. Both mine have good parts but I still grease everything just like the big boy. I have seen slides that are so bad that they simply fall off of the receiver regardless of where it is in relation to the dismount notch. You also see them mushroomed at the back of the slide notches. The slide is the hardest working part on the gun.
Check your recoil spring. It should measure close to 10 1/4" if not collapsed. If it is below 10". I would get a new one. I had one carbine that wasn't even 9 3/4". It functioned except would not feed from a full 30 round magazine until about round 20 or so.
I used to keep a lot of spare parts until I realized that I was only going to have the one carbine and I had no plans to use it for anything, particularly not 'Doomsday'. I still have some small parts and a complete bolt, gauged and fired in the carbine.
The slide shouldn't rattle much with the recoil spring installed - sounds like you need a new spring. I use Militech grease on the slide rails and slide race in the receiver in the attempt to prevent any wear when I do take it out and fire it, which isn't often.
I thought so... The other poster's suggestion about grease on the slide tab and in the groove preventing further wear is a good one also.
