I have a question about copper fouling in a barrel. It is my understanding that copper fouling is a function of bullet speed and heat. Is this fouling uniform through out the barrels length? Or is it concentrated towards the chamber or muzzle end of the barrel?
....indicate more build up at the breach. Higher heat there and the rifling cutting into the jacket there too.

Thanks Emmagee 1917. I have a rifle that seems to get a fair amount of fouling. When I clean it, as far as I can see it looks copper free. I was wondering if I was missing any deeper in the barrel. The patches come out clean and from the muzzle end at least, it looks copper free. It sure does seem like a long process to get it cleared. When I purchased the rifle, I broke it in by cleaning the barrel after each shot or two. I thought it a little odd to get so fouled after each range session. It is a .308 caliber rifle.
I went to using the Outer's electric cleaner set up. I have a little plastic trash can with a metal stand beside it with a clamp assmly on it in my office at work. Set it up in the morning before we open, then every hour or so I take a couple of minites to remove and wipe the rod , reinstall , top off the fluid , and restart. After work I dump the chemicals out , wipe it down , and repete the next day till it's clean. Takes a long time running wise , but short time work wise , and I'm not running a rod and brush up and down a hundred times . It comes out a lot cleaner than the regular way.

Thanks! I may look into doing the same thing! I did not know such a system existed...heard some talk about it but I did not give it much thought.
When I got a hold of some "sweets 7.62" bore cleaner.............it took a long time to get the patches out clean from my Garand and mosin....... also looked like a new barrel when finished
