Oiler Question?????

I seem to remember reading somewhere that G.I.'s never used the carbine oiler for actually storing oil. Is this true? What do the carbine shooters here do? Oil or No Oil, that is the question.

Mine are empty.

I just use some fogging oil in them to keep away any internal rusting.
Any carbine I take out to shoot has been oiled and greased.
To be honest, I rarely have a sling or oiler on any of mine.
I buy them but just store away.
I always hate looking at auctions with the left side of the stock hidden by the strap.

I don't believe it. Faking a $6 item.

I leave some Remoil in mine just for the heck of it. They still seal better than the commercial bottles I carry in my shooting bag.
And Jim, I've seen piles of oilers held in collector's hands that'll never see the open market in our lifetimes. I think that's what the repro guys are basing their plans on. Once they're set up to reproduce them, it's nearly pure profit on each little item from there on......
Sad, but a profitable profession.

Being a Vietnam vet, I like carrying with a sling. My oiler, which was on my 5.6 Win when I bought it 30 years ago, is one of those marked on the top SW in a circle. It leaked out some oil I put inside. They are really kind of useless as an oiler as they just come up with a tiny amount. I grease the snot out of anything I shoot anyway.
