Do all SKS's have chrome bores, or just the Norinco ones? Does the Simonov?
Early Russian ones, pre-1952, did not. Other than that I believe most do have them. Not sure about Romanian or Albanian.
I can't speak for all SKS rifles but Yugo SKS rifles never had chrome bores. No chrome deposits to be found in Yugoslavia and Russia was'nt to freindly with Yugoslavia to be handing any over!
Oh yeah, forgot about the Yugos.
As far as I know, only the Yugos don't have chrome bores.......chris3
Funny thing, that. Just now looking at a Yugoslav SKS that a fellow drug in, wondering why it no longer extracts...
thats not true. acccording to this report from U.S.S.R in 1962, yugoslavia has plenty of chrome .

Early Russian SKSs do not have chromed bores, though the muzzles are highly polished and easily mistaken for chrome. Later Russian SKSs have chromed bores.
I don't know about those made in other countries.

Actually the Yugoslavian's had plenty of chrome just not the technology to apply it to the barrels. One of my friends wrote Mr.Branko Bogdanovic , asking him what was the reason why Yugo sks were chrome less.
For those that don’t know who he is, Branko is THE leading authority on all Yugoslavian weapons, and also Kragujevac factory historian. Of course, Kragujevac is the one and only Yugo factory that produced small arms in Yugoslavia.
His response:
The technology for producing chrome and nickel existed in Slovenia’s steel mills ( one of the former Yugo republics, now independent state) in 1950.
But, technology of actually applying hard chrome in barrels, began after 1970 in Kragujevac factory.
First chrome barrels were produced in M70 automatic rifles ( Yugo Kalashnikovs), and Yugo automatic pistols Skorpion 7.62 mm M84 ( Czech scorpion M61)
So, in short, Yugo had/has plenty of chrome, the know how just came late, after 1970.
The later russian, the chinese norinco's, the romanians and the albanians sks's all have chrome lined bores. All the yugo's have no chrome lined bores. Also with the yugo's there bore diameters seem to run larger, like .3095 to .312. It seems to me they left the room for thye chrome lining probably using the same tooling that one of the others passed on. If your sks is inaccurate mic your ammo and the bore diameter. Bill
