Correct(ish) bayonet for No.1 Mk III* question

Hello everyone, noob to the board here who just recently acquired a '20 Lithgow #1MKIII in great mechanical shape, all matching except for bolt and bolt head. I'd like to know what to look for in a bayonet. Did Lithgow make their own bayonets for their rifles? I've seen several available, but none seem to be of Lithgow manufacture.

And as a side note, I'd like to find a pull-through and oiler also. Again, I've yet to find a Lithgow marked oiler. But, to be honest, the only sources I've checked are Flea-Bay and reruns of Family Guy. Neither turned up any hits...:D

Yes Australia made bayonets. They would be marked Lithgow. Dated accordingly. The originals had the hooked quillion but this would have been removed most likely by that time. (1920) If you just want Aussie, then later blades were marked OA for Orange Arsenal or MA but those are WW2 blades. There's a couple of Australians that will likely join in here shortly.

The lithgow hookies were only manufactured for a few years 1913-15 and only about 8000, very few survive in the hook configaration now, and you'd be paying $2000+

1920 is quite a scarce year, and the interwar years production dropped away at Lithgow be for ramping up again for WWII production. Just grab a cheap 1907 pattern, and keep your eye out, you never know your luck. It seems quite good based on your luck so-far.

You just need an Australian marked oiler, in brass, I'm sure the Lithgow factory never made any, they were sourced from smaller feed factories like Orange

There are a couple Lithgow oilers for sale on that site now...Australian Enfield Oiler - Lithgow Star Marked on eBay.ca (item 370425509459 end time 26-Dec-10 02:59:51 EST)

It depends on what you want, a "matching" bayonet will be Lithgow (no P-07 Bayo's were numbered at manufacture) and as noted above will be quite scarce and expensive. Of course many of the rifles have been FTR'd (Factory rebuilt) over the years and if your rifle bears any markings showing use outside of Australia then you may want a bayonet that matches the country it was used in. If you just want a bayonet then it really doesn't matter who made it.

CORRECTION: The only factory numbered P-07 bayonets were a commercial sale with the 1920 Siam "Tiger" contract. (Thought I'd throw this in before someone pointed that out.:lol:

Thanks guys, I'll probably just buy anything that comes along at a good price. I just found it odd I'd never seen a Lighgow for sale.

Look for the MA markings and not for the word Lithgow, like on the Wilkinsons and Chapmans.

MA? That would explain the stamp on the bolt head!
