russian m44 safty.

In my recent thread I was told that the saftey for the m44 is the knob on the back of the bolt. I also seen a video showing how it was down. the guy made it look easy. my problem is I cannot get that knob to move. I got it to move a little but not near enough to turn it. I would say that I got it to move maybe a quarter inch and at times I could not even get it to move. It would take superman to pull it back and turn it. I would hate to take it out hunting without some sort of saftey. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

I know you won't want to hear this but pull it back harder.

The first couple of times are really hard but once you figure out how much effort to expend, it does get easier.

First time I tried it I was in the store with the salesman and we spent 10 minutes trying to get the thing to move. I was convinced it was broke.

It is NOT something that is convenient in the deer woods.

I have seen an alteration made to them by welding a pull ring on the back and if you are going to use it for hunting and don't mind altering it, that might be the way to go.

If you wish to avoid using the safety whilst hunting, just rotate the bolt handle up. Rotate down when you are slowly preparing to fire. (It is quieter, too!) As the handle will block the sights when up, it's also easy to remember to do if you are a little excited.

It's not real easy to use it's more of a pain in the butt.That's why you don't want to use it.

The safety on a Mosin Nagant is the one located between your ears.......Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.......chris3

In my 20 years of hunting, informal range shooting, and competition - I don't think I've ever used a safety catch.

The Soviet did not design small arms with safety in mind, The TT33 Tokarev pistol has only a half cock SAFETY AND The SVT 40 rifle used it's safety lever for full auto switch. The Mosin Nagant rifle safety WAS USED TO develope ARM STRENGTH. Gary;)

I saw an article by Junior Doughty. He cut a short slice of automotive heater hose and wedged it between the trigger and back of the trigger guard. It prevented any movement of the trigger, but was quick easy and silent to knock out of the way. He had it tied to the stock with a bit of twine.

Low-tec red-neck and effective as heck.

soviet soldiers would put the butt against their right bi cep and its easier to pull..try it.
