Remington M1917 without inspection marks or proof marks?

I was a t a local gun show today a looking for a Remington m1917 to round out my collection of M1917's. I saw a bubba'd up sporterized Remington for $325. in all fairness it was pretty nice an origional except the mote carlo stock UGH! I looked it over carfully and it was a nicely reblued with the origional barrel dated 7-18. I could tell it had been refinished because the barrel was stamped but had been polished up prior to reblueing and the flaming bomb,the "R" and the date was still visible. Most of the parts were marked "R" but it had one or two "E" parts on the rear sight leaf.

Anyway I looked carfully for the Flaming Bomb and eagle head inspectors stamp on the reciever and there was none. Realising it was refinished I looked very carefully and could find no evidence of them being ther or having been ground down. I know many Remingtons in early 1919 were produced after the contract was cancelled and they had no military proof markes/inpectors stamps. with the barrel dated 7-18 and the serial number around the same date this was a contract rifle. HMM?

do the M1917's manufactured without proofs or inspection command a higher price among collectors? I did not buy it because it was this odd configuration and all I wanted was a functioning remington M1917. But it was interesting

I'd say the acceptance stamps were very light to begin with and polishing it to reblue got rid of them. Was the metal intact? If it was you could put it in a military stock.

I have several recievers with inspection and proof stamps. even the partial ones are pretty deep. deep enough that grinding and polishing would be appearent.
