Inletting "C" stock for sniper bolt.

I am almost finished with my replica of a 03A4. I have the Dupage C stock, and all that's left is to inlet the stock for the low bolt clearance. Could someone please either PM me the dimensions, or perhaps a nice picture of one? I don't really want to mess up my stock.

Thanks for posting that picture! I was just about to ask the same thing. Any chance you can remove the bolt and take another photo from the top down? I just want to get an idea of how deep it goes in relation to the thickness of the stock.

I would not start hacking on it until you have a genuine one in hand. It is difficult to see the nuances of the original inletting in a picture. The cut was made in three separate operations. There are tiny triangular flats at the upper corners and the center is dished and rounded in the bottom. The cut it's self is at a slight rearward angle.

That's kinda what I thought. Anyone out there doing decent inletting for those of us with 11 thumbs?

Put some lipstick on the underside of the bolt handle and attempt to close the bolt. With a SHARP inletting tool, remove small amounts of wood .....colored by the lipstick. Repeat many times until enough wood has been removed to allow the bolt to close. Smooth the inletting with fine grit sand paper on a small dowel. Stain and refinish the wood. Use turpentine to remove lipstick from the bolt.
