A friend is looking to obtain data about and buy (if possible) an Australian manufactured "Simplex" reloading press and Dies. Does anyone down there have knowledge about such a press and if so are there any available on the market? We think the press may have been designed by Earl Narramore, (sp) who also designed the Lyman "Tru-Line Turret press and perhaps the Johnson press of many years ago. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.
If it is what I am thinking of it is for neck sizing only. I have no idea if you can get them new any more.
I think I still have one, if your friend is interested he can have it for the price of postage from here but that might end up more than finding one locally .. and who knows what will upset the Federales this week.
I'm not Australian, but here's a link to a thread on an Australian forum that seems to answer some questions. Unfortunately, it's a bit old, so no pics show, but maybe it'll get you going. Looks interesting! Old reloading gear can be fascinating on it's own merits.

Last time I looked on their site, they had a section about Simplex gear - with pictures.
Simplex range seems to have had mostly neck sizing dies (5/8" ?? size), but there were also some regular 7/8" dies.

Perhaps the press uses the Lyman 5/8" x 30 tpi dies - the press looks a lot like the old Lyman Tru-Line Jr. press which used the 5/8" x 30 dies. Are you aware that the Simplex press will not accept Lyman dies and vice versa? The two presses use different threads.
I have one but im sure it came from Herters about 40 years ago. I will check it out to see if it has any stamp etc on it.Quote:
