OT-But a cool thing
All,
I went to a regional show a couple of weeks ago, and all I found were a couple of knives. One was a knife you all would recognize, but had what I have learned is "trench art" for the handle...
It's a Mk 1 Navy, with a fishing line wrapped handle. Here's some photos. You can see where they started the wrap and finished... Then looks like they shellacked (sp?) the whole thing to make it more or less waterproof..
An expert tells me that normally you see them wrapped in a much bigger cord.. Ignorant me, wasn't aware. All I knew is it looked pretty cool so I bought it..
Moderator, you have my permission to delete if too far O.T.....

Isn't that called a monkey's fist?
-
Hi Bill,
Ed, Tired-Retired called it a monkeys fist or paw... IIRC.
We were getting things sorted around at My Father in Laws when I found it in the basement floor joists a few months ago. They had no idea it was there and had lived there for over 58 years. My Father in law just passed away Nov 17th. He was Army in the Pacific. Said they'd bought the home from a WWII Navy vet who was heading to Korea, not sure if the guy was still in the service.
I tell the wife I don't collect strange things......... they just seem to collect me !
Merry Christmas,
Charlie

Yes, Charlie, a good feel in hand. And that Dude is razor sharp.... The blade looks like it's only been sharpened at the factory... No sharpening marks that I can detect, other than the original ones...
It doesn't show up that well, but the stripes of color on the handle are, of course, red, white, and blue...
I think your monkey's paw is an awesome weapon!! How'd you like some guy coming at you swinging that monster ?? !!
Here is a photo of the other knife I got. It's impressive in it's own right !!Attachment 18239Attachment 18238
