New Rebuilt Reminton 03A3

Thought I'd share my most recent project that I just finished (not that they are ever completely finished). It has been in progress for about 6 months but mostly came together in the last month. It is an all correct (as in all "R" marked parts) with the exception of a Keystone C stock, BF bolt body, and a brand new CMP Criterion barrel. I plan on using it for CMP matches in 2011. I'll try to add a few more technical pics in the next day or two.

Big thanks to Chuckindenver for installing the barrel, smoothing the bolt cycle, and the metal finish. On time, on budget, and just what I asked for.

The target the same size as a SR-21 and therefore represents the 9,10, and X rings shot from 100 with some old factory 180gr core lock. I was just breaking in the barrel, but saved the last 8 for this group. I left with a smile.

EDIT: by the way, I really meant to type "ReminGton" in the title:)

Let's see, you have a 65 year old, iron sighted rifle that shoots 8-round groups as good as the 3-round groups popular for testing the newest pillar bedded, synthetic stocked, optic-laden rifle of today. Is that right? I'd say you have reason to smile.

Thanks for the kind comments, I am very happy with it. To be fair, the group was shot from a bench over sandbags, not from a sling like it should have been, but I didn't feel like laying in the snow. If I would have stopped at 3 shots I could have reported a 1.25 MOA rifle like the magazines:) I really prefer to shoot at least 20 and then look at the "average radius". However that trip was really about breaking in the barrel. The next trip will hopefully determine the barrel bedding pressure that it likes so I can finish the inletting.

I looked at your gallery pictures of your rifle. A great looking rifle...

While I was born in Montana, I grew up in eastern Washington State. I see you say you're on the dry side. I grew up in Omak, WA which is on the dry side too. Without asking you to be too specific, I would like to ask if you are relatively close to Omak, WA?

The reason why I'm asking is that I plan on moving back to eastern Washington State, when my wife is released by her doctors. And, I would like to become acquainted with other MilSurp rifle fans, that might live close enough, to make that possible.

I have the same barrel and c stock and have not shot it yet,but looking forward to great accuracy to. Gonna try to make the cmp shoot.

I posted some info in the "range report" forum about the effect of barrel bedding force on the accuracy. Proper stock fit is really important. Let us know how it shoots.

I'm not Allen, but I'm very familiar with that area. I taught in the Grand Coulee Dam schools for 9 years from 1976-85. My kids still consider it to be "home". Passed through Omak and went skiing at Loup Loup a lot. Obviously, no help in current conditions, but always like to meet a "drysider".
