Note my Underwood's receiver ring,
U.S. Carbine cal.30M1
No period before 30M1, or after cal?

I know my eyes are getting bad, but don't I see a . between the L and 3 in your picture?

Some carbine rings are marked "Cal. .30M1", with 2 dots, one for the period after cal., and one for the caliber designation .30M1

Note UEF has serifs on 1 in M1 too
