Need a stock, anybody got one?

I rescued a 1903 Springfield from a pawn shop some years ago and need the correct stock for it. Bubba sure did a number on this one. The remains have all the earmarks of at one time being a national match. Star gaged bbl., gage# in front of rear sight, ns bolt, rifle sn. on stock & bolt, polished rails, the whole 9 yards. Plus, at some time or another it was drilled/tapped for unertl scope bases. Managed to find everything to restore it except a pre-war springfield C stock. Anybody in forumland have one in good plus condition they'd part with reasonably? To anybody in S.C. I have a Colt model 1909 in descent shape I would consider trading.

I can't help you on the stock (wish I had one myself). I was surprised at your location. I've lived in S.C. for 22 years, and last year was the first time I ever heard of Olar, and I'm less than an hour from you.

While I'm not a big fan of Numrich I just ordered one of their repo "C" stocks and was kinda impressed. I'm putting together a 03A4-gery project using a "sporterized" 03A3 I found in a local gun shop. The action dropped right into the stock, wood to metal fit was good and it came prefinished with a nice oil finish. The NOS hand guard was stained but not oiled (dry as the Sahara) and matched the stock color pretty good. Prices were $180 for stock and $30 for handguard before shipping.

Original New Unissued G.I. 1903 Springfield Walnut Scant Stocks

As I said in another post, I just ordered two "C" stocks, with handguards, which are billed as being unissued original stocks.

I was email notified yesterday morning, that the stocks had been shipped. We'll see how original and unissued they are, when they get here. However, there is a big several state wide storm, between me and them. So, it seems like it will be a week or more to get them.

Stillwater, when your stocks arive post some pics, i'm quite interested to see what you have. I bought one of the Sarco stocks awhile back for another project. Unless yours is different from mine Capnjohn, it's a WALNUT STAINED chinese knockoff Not sure as to what kind of wood it is but it's not American walnut. Too light in color. It's not a drop in fit like they claim either, had to do a lot of inletting to get the magazine box to fit up to the bottom of the reciever like it should. The stain will come right off first time you rub it with BLO. Think i'll hold out for a genuine pre- war springfield. I know where two are but the guy wants $650 apiece for just the bare stock. :yikes::ugh:

I got my "C" stocks from Numrich, which said they were "original "C" stocks," not reproductions, in unissued condition.

Numrich also had some reproduction "C" stocks, "listed as reproduction stocks", at a lesser price, on their web Site.

I have United Parcel Service tracking on my stocks and they say they will be here friday. We'll see what they are then.

$650.00 apiece for New unissued Springfield "C" stocks, is a blatant ripoff...

Buyer beware...!

The above description of the stocks I ordered, isn't what was delivered to me. From the above description, it makes you think you're getting a real Springfield stock, not an aftermarket stock that still needed final inletting and finishing.

The stock I received was not what I expected, even after I questioned the order taker very closely. I was assured the stock I was buying was an original, unissued, US Military Springfield stock. Which it obviously was not.

I'm still quiet angry over the deception, so I had better quit saying things, before I start using some unwanted adjectives.

I also ordered one, actually after reading your post. It arrived yesterday. I have to say, I should have known better, but I don't, because I asked about any cartouches or other markings on the stocks. I was quite surprised with the condition of the stock when it arrived.
I'm guessing that maybe you know mor than I, but it looks authentic, and it looks quite old. Actually, it looks like there was at one time a label stuck to it that had been partially removed, and it is quite stained. The staining probably won't be removable as it looks quite deep, and moldy. Is this the same condition that yours arrived in?

I just got off the phone, and the woman told me that the condition was clearly listed on the website. I asked if I returned this one, could I get another, and she stated that they probably sent the best of the bunch(3 left) and there's no guarantee that it will arrive in any better conditon then the one I have. I may just return it. :(

I am trying to get my rifle back to what it wshould look like. Although it is an authentic 03A4, isomeone at some point polished the crap out of the barrel, and it's value is diminished, but to me, I'd like to get it lookin glike it did back in "the day". I may just get a repro stock and handguard and go that row.

Have you returned the ones you ordered, and what was there condition?

NO, that isn't th condition of the stock I ordered.

The stock that was sent to me was an unfinished replacement stock, not an unissued stock, and it was in poor condition.

Yes, I returned the stocks I ordered because they weren't what the order taker told me they were. I asked for unissued stocks and I got unfinished stocks...

I think that what I received and what you received are from the same lot. I should have been clearer when I stated that the "staining probably couldn't have been removed". I should have stated that there were water stains, and mold that couldn't be removed. This stock looks authentic, and yes, certainly unissued. To be issued, you'd think it was ready to install on a rifle. This stock is unfinished as well.

One side of the stock looks okay, but the other side not good. It must have been lying in a box on the ground and absorbed moisture. Like I said, it looks probable that it is authentic, but besides that, I'm not sure usable, unless someone knows how to remove deep water marks and mildew/mold.
