M1 Garand EMcF cartouche (fingers crossed for authenticity)

Hey guys

I am in the position to buy a 1942 (serial 699xxx) SA M1 Garand. The weapon has all the right WWII parts (internal and external) with a SA barrel of 9-43 and was formerly used to shoot blanks, though demil now. It has a Danish stock with the round plate removed and a EMcF cartouche on it.

Question: is this a real cartouche or a fake? It isn't very clear in the picture but the 'c' has a straight left side, and not a round one as on most fakes. Peculiar is that the crossed cannons stamp is not on the rifle (belt sander? removed by the Danish?).

Seller is asking 900 Euro (yes, I am from Europe :wave:) which is about 1200 US Dollar. Mind you that 'good' WWII GI issue Garands are hard to find in my part of Europe.

Value for my money or a big no-no :sos:?

I like it. The non serif P was probably the rebuild before it went over to the Danish. The M is a tough one to look at but under close magnification it is fine and just looks short in the center. Rick B

Generally speaking: is this M1 worth the 1200 USD?

Its not missing it is a large wheel from what I see. They seemed to stamp them light allot of the times. Rick B

Rick's reply on shallow stamping for crossed cannons is right on. Frequently only the top half of the stamp is visible on the best of stocks.

Considering the difficulty of finding a Garand in Europe, if, after your investigation, you feel confident that this is genuine, it is how you value the rifle and that should dictate how much you pay for it (IMHO).

I offer no opinion on the stamp but I would value Rick's opinion any day, it looks like the EMcF stocks that I have.

:eek: You must have some sort of x-ray vision! Is it possible that only the outer rim of the wheel is visible? Pardon my surprise but I haven't seen the weapon 'in the flesh'.

Looks refinished in the pix. Is the chamer bright or Parkerized? Factor that into your decision.

Yes the ring is the faded away large wheel. Large wheels are rare on everything after the GHS period but they had them. Rick B

@ Bob: no word on the chamber. Hopefully it is bright, but knowing it is an ex-Danish rifle it will probably be reparkerized during rebuilt/refurbishment. Don't mind that though.
