Need some first hand experience on collectros licensing here in Victoria, chiefly...
Has anyone used all the categories of the "combines services" matches with the SSAA to hold several different enfields?
Has anyone gone thorugh the process of gaining a collectors permit and was it worth the effort?
Whats the maximum number of rifles in one calibre can i own (licensing services couldn't answer this one)

Interestingly I am considering the same thing. One thing to remember is the police are making up a lot of what they do as they go along. They have no legal basis for half of the things they do, just 'policy'. There is no legal restriction of how many of the one calibre you may own for instance, just their policy. It is pure BS of course but unless someone with the money and clout (SSAA ) actually decides to take them on, it will only get worse.
One interesting thing about collecting is the limit how how many you can have before you need an effective alarm:5 You can have 15 if you get them on a shooting license though the collecting license allows you access to otherwise restricted firearms. I do believe again that this is policy though I think anyone with firearms, just 1 even, should have an alarm, just my own opinion.
If you are part of the SSAA MRC you should be able to get an enfield for WW1 matches ( early No1 Mk3* ), WW2 matches ( later No1 Mk3* ) ... a D-Day one ( No4 ), sniper matches ( No4 T ) and so on. That's just the MRC. I am sure there are other clubs that would allow you to have another ... just think of a range rifle for instance .. a nice heavy barrelled No1 Mk3* with a peep sight.
Wading through the legislation is not helping, theres so many freaking gaps in it is not funny.
I dont hold membership with SSAA, i do fullbore with VRA and im trying to make owning enfields cost efficient. (im looking at 360 buck licence + a new safe + alarm system on top of my ordinary licensing fees)
Theres not a SSAA range within an hour of here which makes it less attractive. An SSAA membership seems to be cheaper though than a collectors licence, might be worth looking into.
On top of Acts you have Regulations, then Amendments .. and when they can't get what they want from that they introduce 'Bills' ... the nett effect is the erosion of our ability to legally own firearms whilst doing jack about crims .. which is hardly unique to Australia.
I am quite annoyed with the way the SSAA bend over for the police and as far as I can tell, never fight anything. It has got to the point where being compliant is counter productive. A level of proactivity is needed to fight back. I can't believe how far it's gone in the 30 years I have been shooting. Having said that, I am a member of the SSAA as they are at the moment the largest body that I am aware of that represents shooters.
Not knowing exactly where you are I can't really comment, but it takes me about 1 1/2 hours to get to the Little River range so I don't go as much as I would like to .. but it's what I have to work with. I thought about full bore shooting but having not as much time as I would like and increasingly dodgey eye sight... I don't know I will bother.
One thing with the SSAA service discipline, unless it has changed you "need" one rifle for each category you wish to shoot, plus maybe specials for specific matches (eg D Day or ANZAC) and then another one of each (for all of them) because if you have a rifle fail during a match, a substitute rifle of the same type is permitted (check local ruling of course, but the reason used to be good enough here when we had to explain every purchase)
Here a rifle held on a collectors license cannot be fired for any reason except with a "commissioners permit" for the purpose of demonstrating it for sale.
Sounds like SSAA will be the way to go. Guess I'll have to find time to get to wodonga to shoot a couple of times a year.
