I first thought it might have been a casket marker but the marker was made after the civil war. it was cut from a silver quad plate serving dish.
I have done a lot of research regarding the soldier and all is true except I cannot find his grave. Government records or otherwise.
My best guess is the family made this up by an amateur and may have posted it on the soldier's grave. Possibly Virginia or NY....
