Well, My book shows it as Colt made in 1917. Is that what you're asking?
No,
But I thank you for your response.I know all the basic info.I was wondering if anybody has any info on where it was shipped etc.Like the springfield research site used to.
Shipped September 22, 1917 to Springfield Armory.
Wow
thank you.do you know if would have been sent their to be shipped to a unit.in other words why wouldnt they just ship it to a unit from colt?anything you can teach me about what happened to pistols normally, when they were shipped to springfeild armory would be great.thank you very much.david
I don't have a percentage, but by far most of the pistols from Colt were shipped to Springfield Armory. I have never seen why this was done, but apparently Ordnance thought it best done that way.
Starting in WWI a large percentage of the pistols were shipped directly to the ports where the pistols would then be sent to France.
The shipment ending with serial number 289300 was the last of the Model 1911 Colts to be shipped in numerical order. It just became a pain in the a$$ to try and keep the pistols in numerical order for shipment, and with the rush of WWI shipments, this was discontinued. You have to get a Colt letter ($100) to get the exact shipping date.
Well thanks so much for the info.I will be getting the letter from colt in the near future.Do you know if anyone has the ability to determine if this pistol was shipped to the european theatre
for ww1?or ww2,or other places it may have been used.it was rebuilt at augusta,as near as I can tell at the end of their operation.I believe it was rebuilt around 1954.It has 1 korean grip panel.I know that could have been added by anyone, but it seems it was left alone after its military life. Thanks to everyone for all of your help.Does the springfeild service have any info that colt does not?
Not to discourage you, but the letter from Colt on your pistol will not tell you any more pertinent information than what I gave you.
It will tell you caliber (.45), the barrel length (5"), the finish (Blue), who it was shipped to (Commanding Officer Springfield Armory), the address of shipment (Springfield, Mass.), possibly the assembly date(?), the date of shipmen(September 22, 1917), and the number of guns in the shipment (800).
There simply are no records of where it went after it left Springfield Armory.
Well thanks anyway. really appreciate your time and help.If you ever need info on just about any military vehicle drop me a line
Thanks, will do.
