Very interesting and lets hope more like this show up on this site.
I was in France (I think) a few years ago and went into a "museum" where I believe the last piece of the British Trench was preserved and many artifacts including glass slides of the battlefield were able to be viewed.
I can't remember exactly where it was and hopefully someone on this site will post where it is. I looked at dozens of slides and there were hundreds but time was against me and I had to continue my journey with the three friends I was with.
Some of the slides/stereo cards were amazing including one of a horse hanging in a tree obvously from a artillery strike nearby.
The "museum" was privately owned and if I remember correctly had a "pub" attached, possibly I am mistaken on the "pub" aspect as we did visit a few pubs that day!
Well here is the update.
Just talked to my friend Peter who arranged the entire trip and it was a pub but near Ypres in Belgium, told you we did visit a few pubs that day. It has some of the last Allied trench system intact and wll worth visiting if you ever get there. Lots of artifacts and as I said hundreds of photos/glass slides etc. Admission was quite reasonable and the food in the pub was very good...so was the beer.
