I have an old bayonet I can not ID. It is a birds head type. 11-1/2" blade with wood grip.
On the blade by the tang is a crown with G.R.I then a MKII underneath. Below that looks like a 7 43 and at the base it looks like RF1.
Anyone have an idea? Found this cleaning out my grandfathers house. It also has a flat blade sharpened to the end and no " blood groove " in the blade.
Sounds like an Ishapore short 1907 bayonet for the Lee Enfield #1 Mk 3. Made for the second war and they were both blue and not finished. No blood groove (fuller) and the false edge sometimes wasn't done either. Check BAyonet Collection Presentation for further pics and Carl will sort you out.

More than a little confusing for me. But there are a several guys here very helpful and seem to know their stuff. The guy above being one and the person he mentions another. I've already learned 100 times what I knew to start with.
There are many, many variations of these Indian made wartime SMLE bayonets according to my friend. Curved/parallel grips, squared/rounded pommels, different crosspieces, and a zillion blade variations...........
On that, has anyone out there in forumland got a list of all the possible variants? That'll shock my Bayonet collecting pal when I know of each type!

I have all examples up to the MkIII the later ones I cannot confirm, i.e. the bowie tipped etc. THey are on the 1907 dedicated page. It also includes all th ediffferent makers but not all makers of each mark. I do not know of different cross pieces, unless he means the occasional one with a 1913/17 style cross piece to fit the American rifle
