Unusual Lyman Alaskan
Any ideas about this Lyman Alaskan? It has no serial number and no provisions for windage or elevation adjustment caps. The bases for the windage and elevation knobs are different from any Alaskan I've seen. All other dimensions appear to be the same. The reticule is horizontal cross hair and post. --TIA

Early Alaskan
RBruce:
You have an example of the first Lyman Alaskan scope, and with no SN, it may be quite early. The first Alaskans had windage and elevation knobs like yours, with no provision for caps. Lyman found out the scopes leaked and fogged, quickly and badly. Soon after, they installed caps on the adjustments.
I have one just like yours, SN 3391, so they made quite a few before they redesigned it.
How early? I'm not quite sure when the Alaskan first came out, but it's at least a few years pre WW2.

The Alaskan was introduced in 1939.
