First Garand with PICS
I finally got a Garand. I made my first trip the CMP store, the northern one, and came away with two service grade HRAs and a can of ammo. It was really nice to be able to look through the racks and gauge each rifle until we found the best ones. These rifles are actually in really good shape. The MEs are 1 and the TEs are 1 and 2. Mismatched parts, but all in good condition. One is for me and the other is for my cousin, who came along for the trip. I can't wait to get them out on the range. Final pic is of cousin, face withheld (besides sh*t eating grin) to protect the innocent.

It looks like the wood is HRA on each one-good score there! Be sure and post your targets, too. Are both barrels HRA?

I think the wood is also proper. They have a P on the wrist and an eagle with arrows left of the receiver. The barrels are both HRA. One rifle has an SA bolt with an HRA trigger group and the other has just the opposite, all are of the "black" variety. Was the black just the finish of replacement parts?

The original finish was a dark manganese parkerizing. Without seeing closeups of the metal, I would guess the finish still original-but the replacement parts could be newer mfg. USGI.

Wow!, nice rifles. I predict great fun ahead, keep them greased and fire away you lucky dog.

Yes grease what the book say's to grease. When I was new it was oil everywhere. an old timer said,"that's alot of oil" . Since then I learned where all the grease goes and think "that was alot of oil". The manual that came with the CMP rifle has the spots in the back to be greased. Enjoy!
