Hornady 174 gn rn and Varget?
I just picked up a box of Hornady 174 gr .312 bullets to reload for my .303 #1 MKIII. I have a can of Varget and am looking for a beginning load.
Suggestions? Hodgdon suggests a starting load of 38gr. varget for the sierra 174 gn .311 hpbt.
What do you think?:sos:
Hornady manual 174 RN loads
Ro-bert,
I flipped through the Hornady manual while I was as my local gunshop today and found the recipes you describe. Big difference.... but Hornady makes the bullets, so I will follow their lead and play it safe. And as a target shooter, if I can save a little powder and get reasonable accuracy, then all the better!
I'll do a range report sometime this week. Thanks for the input.

The difference may be that the Hornady RN is actually .312 while the Sierra is .311 I believe.
Thanks Again:clap:
Thanks for the heads up on the S & B Brass!
Thanks for the PRVI brass suggestion. I'm going to order some asap. I had heard that the S&B stuff was pretty poor, but I found the ammo for verrrrry cheap and just hope to get several reloads by neck sizing only. By then I'll have a stash of PRVI.
Thanks Again:thup:
