WWII Rifle sling?
Hi everyone,
I picked up a couple of, what I was told were, WWII rifle slings. They're not a standard webbing, and they don't appear to have been used. I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me what I have. Whether they are original, repros, if they are even rifle slings at all. Here are a few pics. One of them is stamped U.S. Ackerman Canvas MFG. Co. 1945 . The other is stamped with U.S. Robey Tackle Co. 1945. I didn't pay much for them at all, so even if they are repos, it doesn't bother me. I would just like to know what they are. I've not seen any like these while researching on the net, so I thought I get the input of people who are a lot more knowledgeable.
Thanks so much.

I don't think they were used on a standard issue rifle but may have been used on a light machine gun. The quick disconnects seem common for these. Might try researching in that direction.

Thanks for the reply, Aragorn. I'll follow that trail and see if I can find anything

Thanks, Hal. After looking around a little more, it does appear to be the same design as ammo bag straps, but I've not seen any with this stitching. All the ones I can find are the standard webbing. Do you know if they were used for any particular type of round?
Thanks for the info

I'm afraid I'm not going to be of much help as far as telling you what the specific straps/slings were for, but I'm all twitterpated to see them. I'm from Newaygo, Mi where the robey tackle company was located back in the 40's. It is kind of a big part of the history of our small town how the local women who worked at the tackle company were able to pitch in and be part of the war effort. If you do a google search on "robey gals" you'll pull up some articles and interviews about it. To that end, i'm working on putting together a collection/display of robey products and would love to purchase anything with the robey lable on it that's available. would welcome any pm's from anybody with any robey stuff for sale. thanks.

Doesn't look like any rifle or machine gun sling i've ever seen.
I'm betting on an ammo bag/musette bag or similar.

The snaps are too light for weapon carriers.

I remember the discussion on that one, but these don't resemble that. The little hooks would never hold up. I know, they almost wouldn't do their correct job without bending(medics bag and such).
