I am about to purchase A 1943 No4Mk1(T) sniper rifle for $5500 and it appears to have to correct markings and matching numbers. I would just like to confirm if it is real or fake. One of the pictures has a different scope on the rifle right now.

I would proceed with caution based on the quality of the pictures. The scope number on the upper wrist looks unusual as if its been over stamped - note the different height of the number "1"
Possibly its the quality of the picture that gives this appearance. Can you get better pictures showing the "S51," the right and left side of the receiver flats, and the rear flats of the bolt raceway showing any stamps.

Superficially from what can be seen in the pics it looks like a nice piece, but at that price, caution is the operative word. ;)
It is really difficult to tell from the pics, as lighting and shading can have an adverse affect that gets misinterpreted.
I'd like to see better pics, perhaps closer up and more markings. If you have trouble posting them because they are too large in size, go ahead and email them to me at badger@milsurps.com and I'll host and post them for you in this thread. :thup:

The second figure 5 of the telescope serial number looks to me lioke it's been overstamped with a modern 5 by the shape of the hooked curvature and it's not the same height either. Why is it being sold with a commercial telescope?
The reason it has a commercial scope is because he likes it better for range shooting, so he says. I did not like the fact that the original had been removed from the mount. Anyways I did not buy it. I found another that was verified locally for me and will be posting pics and info real soon. I am really glad you guys were able to spot the discrepancy with those numbers. I thought it looked good 'till then. The fellow that sold me the one I have now gave me a copy of your book Peter. Looking forward to reading. Thanks again for taking the time to help.
Do you have any pic's of the scope can markings? That would help a lot too.
