Suncorite 259 (Not too useful for people outside of the UK)

Just a heads up - there's a company on eBay selling a load of MoD surplus Suncorite 259 for £22.45/litre...

Just curious as to why Suncorite is not useful to anyone outside the UK? Is it just because the Suncorite is not allowed to be sent throught the post outside of the UK?

I'm sure there are plenty of people outside the UK that would like to buy it, but you're right - shipping would be astronomical!

Actually I believe it's now illegal to import to the US for health & safety reasons. Apparently if rats are made to swim in it for years they may develop cancer or some such nonsense...

Just beware. It's not the toxicity that should concern you but the age of ithe paint. It soldifies towards the bottom of the can into a solid, hard grey mass. That's why it has a relatively short shelf life. In use, it's kept stirred and even the painters keep the spray guns moving.

Would the Suncorite be high in lead content?

I've just received some, stuff is fine and already used a little to paint a barrel. No hard grey mass of which you speak.:thup:

Peter, someone over here is selling 1/2 liter bottles of Suncorite for a fancy price. I am thinking of getting one, but your comment worries me. Could you be a bit more specific about shelf life? And can one touch up old surfaces with it, or would I have to strip the tatty parts and start with blank metal?

I have a Suncorite and it is better to clean up the old parts via glass bead blasting and after it you should do a blueing job and than the Suncorite, Patrick! If you want, PM me.
