Clark Campbell update.

i was going to tag on my original post, but thought this deserved its own...
i contacted his familiy via a net social network, and his son Mark was kind enough to respond.
heres the email sent back to me...thought i would share.

Subject: Clark
Chuck, I'm sorry to say that my dad passed away on April 9th of this year. He was suffering fibrosis of the lungs and decided to enter hospice. He was very alert up until he needed the pain medications. He went swiftly as was his plan.

my experiances with Clark Campell were all great, iv met him in person many times over the years and every time he had a handshake and a smile, last time i had a face to face with Clark, he had a hand full of bolts, and asked if i knew what they were...so...i looked at them and figured out all of them, even the 1922 .22 Hornet bolt he had..since that day,,we stayed in touch.
that last time i saw him, he looked pretty tired, and asked to sit down at my table..that was well over 10 years ago, and phone conversations were short...
i enjoyed talking and sharing info with him.. he was always quick to help, and always positive.
lately he was putting together some rifles for his grandkids, and seems like he never got to finish them..
he will be missed, and was a great guy, that left a positive mark in the 1903 world.

I am also sorry to hear of Clark Campbell's passing. Along with William Brophy and a couple of others, he was a true pioneer in the serious study of the M1903. His first M1903 book came out in 1957, when most of us were still in elementary school, diapers, or hadn't been born yet. He perservered over the years, bringing one update out after another. We are greatly in his debt for all his work - and our community will be the poorer for his passing.

I always meant to get a signed copy of one of his books, went looking when I read this thread.
I am now the proud owner of a signed edition of "The '03 Springfield Rifles' Era" by Clark S. Campbell.

Sad news, but I will always be grateful to Mr. Campbell for his contributions to 1903 Springfield knowledge.

I always found his book more "approachable" than the just-as-valuable Brophy book.
