Took a couple of flip sight and a couple of adjustable sight carbines to the range today. Three of them had previously not been fired by me and have been in the collection several years. I have always been curious as to how the flip sight carbines would compare on paper in relation to POA/POI.
Carbines used in order are a 5.5 million Inland, 6.5 million Winchester, 4.5 million Rock-ola, and a 3.8 million IBM. All carbines are in their original configuration with the possible exception of the Winchester, which may have had a couple of internals replaced. The rear sights are in their original staked positions. Distance fired was 50 yds using S&B 110 gr. FMJ. Range conditions were windy and hot. Shots were fired using a plastic two piece rest. The two adjustable sighted carbines were fired without adjusting the rear sights. How they came to me is how they were fired. They both appear to be mostly centered and in their lowest elevation position.
The Inland appeared to have the tightest group followed closely by the IBM. No question the Inland had the best trigger pull with very little if any creep. The flip sighted carbines both have type 1 barrel bands. All carbine recoil plate and barrel band screws were tightned before shooting. There were no warm up shots fired, each carbine was fired from a cold barrel 5 shots. A six o'clock hold was used. The IBM appeared to be sighted differenly however as the POI was dead on at this distance. The flip sight carbines were dead on for windage.
