One source estimates Aug 1943.
So it appears to be an early one. Currently has an M2 potbelly stock, stamped adjustable rear sight and bayonet band. I plan on using it in a living history display with my 1944 GPW Jeep. Would the originally issued parts for the rifle be an I cut stock, flip sight and early band?
Thanks!
A type 2 oval oiler slot with high wood would be correct. Type 1 flip rear sight and type 1A early band marked UI or unmarked.
I do have a I cut IO marked stock, and a friend has an early band i can get hold of. I am going to change out the flip safety for a pushbutton one that I have. Thanks for all the info, helps out a lot. Guess I will probably get a reproduction flip sight until I can find a real one.
Has your carbine been refinished? Removing the front sight will scratch the tip of the barrel in front of the sight, and you have to take it off to put a new band on. I don't guess it matters that much on a rebuild with re-Parkerizing.
I believe it has been reparked after a rebuild. When I got it, it had the late stamped rear adjustable sight, bayonet band, flip safety and sitting in a M2 potbelly stock. Really just bought as a shooter, but looking to make it resemble itself as issued in WWII to be more appropriate as a display piece for my 1944 jeep.
