I'm planning on buying the NPM in these pics but I have never seen a light gray finish like this before. Is there any thing anyone can tell me about it? Thanks for your help and expertise.

Looks like a Re-Park, I wouldnt let that stop me.:super:
You can have it reparked to a darker color. Theres a couple diff compounds used that produce diff color.
Nothing wrong with it - typical arsenal re-finish. Plus, many carbines had a light color from the manufacturer as Parkerizing varies greatly for many reasons. The acceptable shades were from near-black to 'a peculiar shade of neutral gray' (quoted from an early manual).
I'm going to go ahead with the transaction. Its one of the best condition carbines I have ever seen and it comes with the bayonet pictured below. The NPM carbine and bayonet look at least twice as nice as my Quality Hardware carbine and current bayonet.

Would leave the color as is. It does not appear to be that much different from one that has it's original finish.

That is one BLACK bayonet. My dad's PAL (Okinawa/Philippines '44-'46) is a bit lighter. The leather thong is over 50 years old!

Yes it is very black in appearance. It looks to be in unissued condition as does the scabbard.Quote:
